Bench in Hotel Rooms: Luggage Storage Without Floor Contact

Guests are reluctant to place their suitcases directly on the floor or on the bed. The floor seems unhygienic, the bed is meant for sleeping. A storage surface at a comfortable height is often missing, especially in compact rooms without space for a second table. The result: suitcases stand in the way, clothing is carelessly placed, the room appears untidy. A well-considered solution creates order and noticeably increases comfort.

Why a Bench Is the Better Luggage Rack

A bench at the foot of the bed or against the wall provides a stable, elevated surface for luggage. The guest does not need to bend down, can comfortably open the suitcase and remove clothing. At the same time, the bench serves as seating when putting on shoes or making phone calls. It fulfils two functions on minimal floor space and keeps the room free of makeshift storage solutions.

Upholstery or Wood Surface: Which Suits Better

Upholstered Benches appear inviting and offer seating comfort, but are more susceptible to wear from suitcase bottoms. Models with fixed covers made of robust fabric or artificial leather last longer than delicate velvet surfaces. Benches with smooth wooden surfaces or leather upholstery are more durable and easier to clean. They are particularly suitable for rooms with high occupancy rates, where luggage is placed daily.

Height and Width for Practical Use

The bench should be low enough that a heavy suitcase can be placed without effort, but high enough to enable comfortable sitting. A medium seat height is the best compromise. The width depends on the available wall length: a narrow bench also fits in small rooms, while a wider version at the foot of the bed offers more storage space and visually frames the bed.

Location in the Room: Foot of Bed or Window Front

Placed at the foot of the bed, the bench structures the room and creates clear storage within reach. This position is suitable for rectangular rooms with sufficient distance to the door. At the window front or against a free wall, the bench is less in the way and can be used more flexibly. It is important that the guest sees a storage option immediately upon entering the room and does not have to search first.

Care and Durability in Hotel Operations

Benches with removable covers facilitate cleaning, but are rarely stable enough for daily use. Models with permanently attached upholstery should be made of wipeable materials. Wooden benches with oiled or lacquered surfaces are easiest to maintain and age evenly. Pay attention to stable feet and solid frame construction, so that the bench remains dimensionally stable even with frequent loading by heavy luggage.
