Bench in Front of the Wardrobe: Avoiding Dressing While Standing

In hotels, guesthouses and holiday apartments, you observe the same scene time and again: guests balance on one leg while putting on shoes, lean against the wall or are forced to sit on the floor. The wardrobe area offers hooks and shelves, but no seating. This appears unfinished and leads to unnecessary complaints, particularly from older guests or families with children.

Why a Bench Enhances the Entrance Area

A bench directly beside or opposite the wardrobe solves the problem elegantly. It gives guests the opportunity to tie shoes, put on stockings or set down heavy bags in comfort. This noticeably increases comfort and conveys the impression that you consider details. At the same time, the bench structures the space visually: it marks the transition between outside and inside and creates a clear functional zone.

Which Design Suits Narrow Hallways

In many properties, only limited space is available. A narrow bench without armrests takes up hardly any room and can also be placed sideways against the wall without narrowing the passage. Models with a low backrest offer additional support without visually dominating. Ensure that the seat height is comfortable: too low makes standing up difficult, too high makes putting on shoes uncomfortable.

Material and Upholstery for Heavy Use

In the entrance area, the bench is exposed to constant use. Moisture from clothing, dirt from shoes and frequent sitting require robust material. Wooden frames with firm upholstery and wipeable covers have proven effective. Dark colours or patterned fabrics conceal signs of wear better than light plain surfaces. When you select Benches, check whether the cover can be cleaned or replaced if necessary.

Additional Storage Space Beneath the Seat

Some benches offer space beneath the seat for shoe polish, spare towels or umbrellas. This is particularly practical in smaller properties where every square metre counts. Open compartments appear airier, closed chests keep clutter hidden. Decide according to use: in a boarding house with changing guests, a closed solution is often more sensible than in a privately run guesthouse.

Positioning in the Room

Position the bench so that guests do not look directly into the hallway or entrance door when sitting down. A position to the side of the door or on the opposite wall creates a more pleasant feeling. Leave sufficient distance to the wardrobe so that doors can open and several people can use the area simultaneously. A small storage surface within reach, such as a console or wall shelf, complements the function sensibly.
