Gold leaf creates a representative appearance, patina adds character, high-gloss lacquer provides intensive protection. However, not every finish is suitable for every location. Wrong decisions lead to complaints, rework and dissatisfied clients. This article shows which surface holds up permanently under which conditions.
Gold Leaf: Representation with Maintenance Requirements
Gold leaf on wooden frames creates classic elegance and is frequently chosen for representative areas. Processing takes place in several layers: primer, bole, leaf application, sealing. Unsealed gold leaf oxidises on contact and shows fingerprints. Gold leaf sealed with shellac or acrylic lacquer withstands mechanical stress better, but remains sensitive to cleaning agents containing alcohol or solvents.
