Window Display Decoration: Staging Furniture Instead of Simply Placing It
Many retailers and restaurateurs place their furniture in the window display as if it were in a warehouse. An armchair stands next to a table, both facing the glass frontally, with emptiness in between. The eye of the passerby glides over it because nothing tells a story. Anyone who wants to sell furniture or attract guests must create atmosphere. This does not require large budgets, but rather an understanding of how spaces work and how to guide the gaze.
Creating Levels and Filling the Space
A successful window display works with differences in height. Place a low side table in the foreground, behind it an armchair on a platform, and at the back wall a tall shelf or mirror. This creates depth, and the gaze wanders through the scene. Do not leave large empty areas, but do not overload either. Each element should be able to work on its own without disappearing in the mass.
Setting Accents with Light
Daylight alone is rarely sufficient. Use spotlights or lamps strategically to highlight individual pieces of furniture. Change the staging every few weeks so that regular customers always discover something new.
Adopting the Perspective of the Passerby
Step in front of your window display yourself and check what you see. From which angle does the scene work best? Where does something obstruct the view, where is an eye-catcher missing? It often helps to position the furniture slightly at an angle rather than aligning it parallel to the glass. This creates dynamism and invites the viewer to mentally enter the space. Ensure that no price tags or cables disturb the effect.
