The motif
Medusa in the moment of her horror: the brows drawn together, the mouth half open, the head tilted slightly to the side. Instead of hair, dozens of snakes coil around brow and temples, each worked out individually and free standing. The model is the famous baroque version of the motif.

Craftsmanship and stone
The snakes are undercut, that is, released from the head; this is the most demanding part of the work and the reason why the bust works from all sides. It stands on a beige marble socle. The piece is worked from a natural block of marble, roughed out by hand, modelled and finally ground and polished. Every block brings its own veining, so no two pieces turn out alike.

Placement and effect
The bust is a statement and not an aside. It stands best alone on a console or column, with light from obliquely above so that the snakes cast shadows. In a room with dark walls it gains markedly.

Material and care
Marble is a natural stone and ages with dignity, a soft dry cloth is all it takes for dusting. Acidic cleaners, vinegar and descalers do not belong on the surface, they attack the limestone. Veining, colour gradients and small inclusions are natural features of the material and not a defect.
