Furnishing Lounges and Bars: Seating That Sells Drinks
In lounges and bars, seating arrangements determine revenue per square metre. Guests who sit comfortably and can place their drinks stay longer and order more. Furnishing must meet two requirements: it creates different zones for various group sizes while keeping cleaning effort within reasonable limits. Those who purchase without planning waste space or invest in furniture that must be replaced after two seasons.
Coordinating Seat Height and Table Height
Standard seat height for Armchairs ranges between 42 and 46 cm. Tables with heights of 50 to 55 cm suit these dimensions. This distance of approximately 8 to 10 cm allows guests to place glasses comfortably without leaning forward. Along walls, 60 cm suffices when no additional furniture stands behind. These measurements apply to normal operations. During events with higher occupancy, you can reduce distances to 70 cm, but must then expect longer service times.
Selecting Materials for High Frequency Use
Artificial leather with at least 100,000 Martindale rubs lasts approximately three to four years in hospitality settings. Genuine leather requires more maintenance but tolerates disinfectants better. For coffee tables, glass tops with 8 to 10 mm thickness have proven effective: they can be wiped quickly and show dirt immediately. Wooden tops require a sealed surface that does not absorb liquids. High-gloss lacquer finishes appear dull after a few weeks when cleaned daily.
Controlling Zoning Through Furniture Arrangement
Divide the space into at least three areas: two-seat groups for couples, four-seat groups for small gatherings, and an open zone with flexible stools for larger groups. Quieter seating belongs at the back or in alcoves, communicative areas face the bar. Do not push armchairs directly against the wall, but leave 15 to 20 cm clearance. This facilitates cleaning and prevents abrasion on wall paint.
Incorporating Cleaning Efficiency Into Planning
Furniture with legs rather than continuous plinths allows mopping underneath. Closed upholstery without buttons or decorative stitching collects less dirt than textured surfaces. Light covers show every stain, very dark fabrics show every speck of dust. Medium tones or subtle patterns are more practical. Plan a table for each seating group: guests placing glasses on the floor present a safety risk and signal incorrect furnishing.
