Sofa in the Suite: Furnishing a Seating Area Without a Dining Room

In hotel suites, serviced apartments or spacious guest rooms, a separate dining area is often missing. However, guests still want to enjoy breakfast comfortably, work or have a snack without having to use the desk or bed. The challenge is to create a seating area that is suitable for both relaxing and dining, without the room appearing cluttered or losing its homely character.

The Right Sofa Shape for Multiple Uses

A sofa with a firm backrest and adequate seat height is essential. Cushions that are too deep and that you sink into make it difficult to get up and make eating uncomfortable. Two-seaters or compact three-seaters offer enough space without dominating the room. Models with straight armrests can be moved closer to a table than those with expansive side sections. When selecting Sofas, you should ensure that the seat height is approximately at chair level, so that guests can sit comfortably at the table.

The Coffee Table as a Flexible Centrepiece

A coffee table at the appropriate height becomes the central element of the seating area. It should not be too low, otherwise every meal becomes an awkward exercise. Models with a height just below the seat edge of the sofa are most suitable. The tabletop must be large enough for crockery and cutlery, but must not restrict freedom of movement. Rectangular or oval shapes make better use of space than round tables. High-quality Coffee Tables with sturdy construction withstand daily use in commercial settings and can be easily repositioned when needed.

Planning Additional Seating

A sofa alone is rarely sufficient when two people want to dine together. A single armchair or two chairs opposite create a balanced seating arrangement. It is important that all seating is at the same height, so that no one sits awkwardly. Lightweight chairs can be moved aside when needed and give the room flexibility. Ensure that there is enough space between the sofa and table to stand up without having to move furniture.

Lighting for Different Situations

A seating area used for dining requires sufficient light above the table. A floor lamp next to the sofa or a pendant light with adjustable height create pleasant brightness without illuminating the room too harshly. For relaxed evening hours, indirect lighting should also be available. Multiple light sources make it possible to adjust the atmosphere according to the time of day and use.

Materials for Daily Use

In commercial settings with changing guests, surfaces must be easy to care for and durable. Upholstery fabrics should be washable or removable, tabletops resistant to moisture and scratches. Dark colours are more forgiving than light ones, overly delicate materials lead to frequent replacement. At the same time, the furnishings must not appear sterile, but should radiate homeliness. High-quality workmanship and timeless forms ensure that the furniture looks well-maintained for years to come.
