The motif
A dancer leans sideways in a rocking chair, one leg drawn up, the arm laid over the rest, the hand at her neck. The band in her hair, chains, bangles and anklets are worked out individually, the long skirt falls in heavy folds over the seat. The chair is painted green, the hangings are red with fringes, the body remains golden and gleaming.

Craftsmanship and casting
The colour is applied cold, that is not fired but set layer by layer onto the finished bronze and polished in between. Figure and chair are cast separately and bolted together, fringes and jewellery are separate small parts. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
Cold painted bronzes belong on a firm horizontal surface at viewing height: a sideboard, a console, a mantelpiece. Warm light from the side brings gold and red together, cold light makes the paintwork look flat. As a single piece on a clear surface the figure works better than in a group.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
