A motif from classical sculpture
Mercury balances on one foot, the winged helmet on his head, holding a small aeroplane aloft. The famous Renaissance figure of the flying messenger was reinterpreted in the 1920s and 1930s as the winner's trophy of air races, and it is exactly that version cast here.

Fine craftsmanship and solid bronze
The figure is cast in solid bronze using the lost-wax process, each piece chased and patinated individually by hand. The body carries a warm golden brown patina polished lighter on muscles and wings; the aeroplane is worked as a small model of its own. The figure is carried by a round column of black marble with light veining.

Placement and effect
At 71,8 cm tall and 6,5 kg the sculpture has real weight and needs no company. In a library, a study, an office or beside a collection of vintage models it is a conversation piece.
