The motif
The winged goddess of victory strides forward, the body turning against the wind, the wet garment clinging to belly and legs and streaming out behind her. The two large wings are worked out feather by feather and spread far back. As in the ancient model, head and arms are missing, which belongs to the iconography of this figure.

Craftsmanship and stone
The figure stands on its own marble slab with grey veining, cut as part of the base. The piece is worked from a natural block of marble, roughed out by hand, modelled and finally ground and polished. Every block brings its own veining, so no two pieces turn out alike.

Placement and effect
At over a metre and a half the sculpture carries a hall, a stair landing or the end of a sight line. It wants to be seen from an oblique front view, then stride and wings engage with one another. A spotlight from below markedly strengthens the drawing of the folds.

Material and care
Marble is a natural stone and ages with dignity, a soft dry cloth is all it takes for dusting. Acidic cleaners, vinegar and descalers do not belong on the surface, they attack the limestone. Veining, colour gradients and small inclusions are natural features of the material and not a defect.
