This centrepiece by Casa Padrino is made of two very different parts, which is exactly why they work together: a brass elephant below, a wide, shallow glass bowl above.

The elephant is not an outline but modelled in detail. It wears a patterned caparison with tassels and bells, the trunk is curled upwards, the ears lie flat. It stands on a ribbed plate, which in turn rests on a black base with several mouldings.

The glass bowl sits on a turned brass stem with a beaded ring. A cut star pattern runs across its floor, visible only when light falls from above or the bowl is left empty. The rim is held by a brass mount.

At 40 cm tall the piece is high enough to work as the centre of a long table, and low enough to talk across. It takes fruit, pastries or spheres, yet also holds up empty, because then the cut pattern stays visible.

For a dining table, console or sideboard: a piece that decorates in height rather than in area, and at 6.75 kg stays put where you set it down.
