Two things strike you about this chair at once, and they contradict each other on purpose. One is the shape: a tall back narrowing towards the top, a pierced carved crest, scrolled arms, shaped legs. Textbook baroque.

The other is the colour. The frame is neither gilded nor painted white but lacquered in high-gloss apple green. That tips the piece out of the historical and into the present without altering the form at all.

The upholstery carries medallions with rococo scenes among floral garlands on a grey-green ground, framed by nailhead trim along the edge of the wood. A piece for the corner that otherwise stays empty, or as the head chair at a long table. Reproduction in baroque style.
