This table lamp by Casa Padrino is really a chandelier on a stem. Instead of a shade it carries six rings of hexagonal crystal panels that taper upwards and end in a single plate. The shape is familiar from ceiling lights; here it stands on the table.

Every panel is faceted in a star: cut rays run from the centre to the six edges. Because the panels hang free and overlap slightly, the light of the four bulbs produces no even surface but many small reflections that shift as you walk past.

All of it is carried by a slim gold-coloured tube on black marble. The stone is why the lamp stands safely despite its height: 14 kg, most of it in the base.

At 85 cm tall it does not belong on a bedside table but on a sideboard, console or mantelpiece where it has room above. A pair set apart gives a long piece of furniture an immediate centre.
