Bench Along the Long Side: More People at One Table
In the hospitality industry and communal spaces, there is often insufficient floor space to accommodate enough seating. Individual chairs require room to pull out, and unused gaps remain between seats. A continuous bench along the long side of a table creates significantly more capacity without making the space feel overcrowded. At the same time, it creates an inviting, communicative atmosphere that is particularly valued in restaurants and hotel lobbies.
More Seats on the Same Length
A bench makes full use of the available table length. Where four chairs stand, a bench often accommodates five or six people, because armrests are eliminated and the seating surface runs continuously. This is particularly advantageous for large groups or varying numbers of guests. The selection of Benches ranges from narrow models for hallways to upholstered versions that can be placed along long tables.
Space Gained Through Wall-Side Placement
When the bench stands with its backrest against the wall, the manoeuvring space behind the seated persons is eliminated. The table can move closer to the wall, and the remaining aisle remains freely accessible. In narrow dining rooms or breakfast areas, you gain valuable circulation space without sacrificing comfort. The opposite side of the table can then be furnished with individual chairs that are easier to move.
Uniform Seat Height and Table Combination
For the bench to remain comfortable, the seat height must match the table top. Standard Dining Tables have a height of approximately 75 centimetres, which suits a seat height in the medium range. Ensure that the depth of the seating surface is sufficient so that taller people can also sit comfortably. A bench that is too shallow appears makeshift and does not invite lingering.
Upholstery and Easy Maintenance
In the hospitality industry, upholstery that repels liquids and can be wiped down with a damp cloth is recommended. Artificial leather or coated fabrics meet this requirement and can be cleaned quickly when needed. Fabric covers create a more homely appearance but require regular care. The padding thickness should be chosen so that the seating surface retains its shape even after prolonged use.
Design and Spatial Effect
A continuous bench structures the space and creates a calm accent. Dark wood tones or muted upholstery colours fit into classic interiors, while lighter versions make small rooms appear more spacious. In combination with a long table, a banquet appearance is created that emphasises conviviality whilst creating order. For flexible room concepts, several shorter benches can be arranged in a row and repositioned individually as needed.
