The motif
The body of a young athlete stands on both legs, the weight resting on the right one, the hip tilting slightly, the head turning to the side. Both arms break off just behind the shoulder, the open tube ends remain visible. The surface is rust brown with green efflorescence of the kind found on bronzes long buried in the ground. A black steel stand carries the figure freely.

Craftsmanship and casting
The break at the arms is intended and modelled from the start, not produced afterwards. The patina is applied in several passes and partly taken back again so that the surface ages unevenly. The stand engages a bore in the foot area and lets the figure float without a base plate. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
A torso needs distance and a quiet wall. Against smooth plaster, in front of a bookcase or in a niche the rugged surface shows best, with a directed spotlight from above at an angle. In a law office, a practice or a reception the figure reads as serious, because it explains nothing.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
