The motif
A young woman in a long gilded robe raises a pierced bowl above her head with both arms. The folds of the skirt are gilded to a high gloss, skin and hair remain darkly patinated, necklace and belt are finely chased. The figure stands on a round column of pale marble with a dark base and a dark top plate.

Craftsmanship and casting
Figure, bowl and column are three separate parts and are assembled only on site. The gilding is laid over the patina as a second surface, so that robe and skin of the same sculpture gleam differently. The marble shaft is turned from the solid block. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
The bowl is deep enough for a planted insert, a block candle or a flat fruit dish. Because figure and column together almost reach eye level, it belongs in a corner, at a window reveal or beside a door reveal, never in the middle of the room. A second piece on the opposite side turns it into an axis.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
