On this centrepiece by Casa Padrino a palm tree carries the bowl. Two slender brass trunks are twisted into one another, leaving an open loop in the middle; above, seven large fronds spread out, each pinnate leaf worked separately.

The glass bowl rests on the fronds, held by a brass ring with bead moulding. A cut floral pattern lies in its floor and throws shadows onto the table top when light comes from above.

Below, the whole stands on a round base of black marble. Fine roots gather at the foot of the trunks, and a small lizard hides among them for anyone who looks closely.

At 54 cm this piece is markedly taller than an ordinary bowl and therefore works with the space above the table instead of merely lying on it. On a console in front of a mirror the silhouette of the fronds doubles.

A piece for anyone who likes colonial style and brass: striking in form, quiet in material, and with 7.4 kg standing firm without a wobble.
