A fireback is one of those parts you only miss once the masonry starts to crack. It stands behind the embers, takes the heat and shields the wall. After years of service you replace the plate, not the wall.

This one is 9 mm solid cast iron, hand cast in a family-run foundry that has done nothing else since 1973. The relief shows a mascaron relief after a historical pattern. Cast iron stores heat and releases it slowly, so the room stays warm longer than the fire burns.

For a long service life, leave a small gap between plate and masonry so air can circulate and cool.
