The motif
The torso of a young shepherd stands in a slight stride, the face inclined beneath the wide brim of a flower-trimmed hat. Arms and lower legs deliberately end as breaks, the way ancient bronzes are recovered from the sea, quoting the David of the early Renaissance.

Craftsmanship and casting
The surface is deliberately left uneven and patinated in ochre, rust brown and verdigris, like a long buried find. The fragment is carried by a plain black metal stand with a square base plate, which is included. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
The fragment is most effective in front of a calm, light wall, because only there do the silhouette and the broken edges become readable. In galleries, practices and entrance areas a single piece of this kind replaces a whole arrangement.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
