The motif
A crane stands on two thread-thin legs, the neck stretched steeply upwards, the long beak almost vertical in the air. The body is gathered into a smooth, drop-shaped mass in which only a curved edge suggests the wing. The base plate carries the splayed toes.

Craftsmanship and casting
At 172 cm the two legs carry the whole figure; they are cast solid and let into the base plate, while the hollow body keeps the weight low. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
The crane is a floor figure for an entrance, a conservatory or a corner of a room. Two or three side by side, slightly offset, work far more strongly than one alone; the stock allows for that.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
