The motif
A female figure whose proportions are deliberately overstretched: the upper body remains modelled close to nature while hip and legs draw together into a single slender column with a cloth worked into it. The long wavy hair falls over the shoulders. The figure stands on a plain square plate.

Craftsmanship and casting
The transition from the naturalistic upper body into the abstracted column is the real task in modelling; it runs through without an edge, so that the figure remains a single form. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.
