The motif
A whole owl family sits on a gnarled tree with a widely spreading root foot: at the top an owl with wings spread wide, about to take off, below on two branches the smaller birds, each in its own posture. The trunk is patinated green, the owls kept a warm bronze, so that they stand out clearly against the wood.

Craftsmanship and casting
Tree and birds are worked separately: every owl is cast, chased and mounted individually, after which the trunk receives its green patina. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
The sculpture stands indoors as well as out, in a conservatory, in a stairwell or free on a lawn. Because it is worked all round, a place you can walk around is worth it; from every side a different owl appears.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
