The motif
A large long-eared owl sits upright on an obliquely rising tree stump, close beside it the owlet presses into her plumage. The adult bird's gaze goes watchfully forward, the ear tufts raised. The stump carries a light, almost stony patina, the birds are kept dark.

Craftsmanship and casting
The light stump and the dark birds arise from two separate patinations, applied one after the other and fixed individually. The sculpture is cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process, the technique that has been in use since antiquity. Every piece is chased and patinated individually by hand, and only then does the final colour appear.

Placement and effect
The figure likes to stand slightly raised, on a low wall or a plinth, because the stump leads obliquely upwards and takes the eye with it. Usable indoors as well as out.

Material and care
Bronze does not age and is practically maintenance free, a dry soft cloth is all it takes. Because every piece is cast and patinated by hand, no two are identical: slight variations in tone and surface are part of the process and are not a defect.
