What defines a baroque style sculpture
A baroque sculpture thrives on movement. Figures rarely stand rigidly; they turn, raise an arm or tilt their head. Robes fall in deep folds, and hair and feathers are finely detailed.
Popular motifs include ladies in flowing robes, angels, goddesses, peacocks and lions. Figures often carry an attribute such as a flower pot, a shell or a vase. This turns the statue into a planter or water feature at the same time.

When planning, the relationship to the space is what counts. A 2 metre figure needs room around it and clear sightlines from several angles. Smaller figures work better in groups or on a plinth at eye level.
For large marble sculptures, check the load-bearing capacity of the ground. On terraces and balconies, weight is often the deciding factor. In the garden, a firm, level base on paving slabs or a foundation is recommended.
A simple rule of thumb helps with the choice: the larger the room or garden, the larger a single figure can be. In small rooms, two medium-sized figures often look more balanced than one very large one. Measure door widths and access routes too, so the figure can actually reach its spot.

Light changes the effect of a sculpture dramatically. Raking light from the side brings out folds and facial features, while light from above makes white marble almost glow. So plan the lighting at the same time, for instance with wall lights or a spotlight in the niche.

Caring for marble, bronze and stone
Clean marble with clear water and a soft cloth. Acidic cleaners attack the surface. In the garden, an impregnating sealant protects against stains and moss.
Bronze and bronze-coloured surfaces are dusted dry. The patina is part of their character and should not be polished away. Stone and ceramic tolerate a mild soap solution.
